DINING
During your stay, you can enjoy evening meals in the airy dining room with french doors leading to the garden, whilst our fully licensed bar is also open to non-residents April - October. A varied menu includes vegetarian dishes with seafood a speciality, and we earn a 'Crusted Pie' commendation from the AA for the excellence of our fare using locally sourced Cornish produce. Main course meals are available from around £9.00 with a 3 course meal from around £17.00. Dining at Polraen

As all food is individually prepared and home cooked, we request starter and main course choices by 11 am on the day, serving meals in the Dining Room from 7 pm. Please note that the Dining Room and Bar are closed on Sunday evenings - we are more than happy to assist with bookings at local restaurants. In summer in hot sunny weather, evening dinner may occasionally be replaced with a BBQ.

The ambience that prevails at Polraen is that of a private country house, and quality refurbishment of all public areas has created an ideal venue for small weddings, family celebrations and social gatherings. We can cater for parties of up to 24 for seated meals or 50 buffet style with a menu tailored to your requirements. Outside of the peak season, we can also provide total privacy for executive meetings and small corporate events (both residential and non-residential).

GUEST LOUNGE & BARThe sitting room at Polraen
Relax in the comfort of the guest sitting room, and choose from the selection of books, magazines, and videos, or share more family-oriented pursuits using the board games and contents from the toy box or just enjoy a quiet night in front of the TV. If you prefer to share the day's highlights with fellow guests and a few of the locals, you will enjoy the cosy and sociable atmosphere of our fully licensed bar. Sample 'Cornish Knocker' - a fine real ale, or why not try the wonderful local cider and apple juice from Cornish Orchards from just up the valley, or our excellent range of single malt whiskies.

THE GARDEN, PARKING & LOCAL TRANSPORT
The house has a wonderful aspect looking over a large sunny garden. The terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a drink as the occasional pheasant strolls across the lawn. An attractive mix of well laid out flower beds gives way to more indigenous species lending the garden a charm of its own. There's plenty of space for children to play without disturbing others. Children of any age are welcome at Polraen. The garden is ablaze in June with Californian poppies and Johnson Blue
S
taying just outside Looe at Polraen offers distinct advantages. The convenience of easy level access from our onsite car park is particularly appreciated by the less mobile or those with young children. Secure enclosed parking is also available for cycles and motorcycles. Not forgetting the peace of the Cornish countryside! It's only a 5 minute drive into Looe but few country house hotels in such a peaceful setting offer such convenient access to Looe allowing you to leave the car behind. In just 4 minutes walk up the lane, you can board the Looe Valley Train for what is undoubtedly the most scenic 5 minute ride on the entire branch line. The train skirts the banks of the river into Looe allowing you to spot the birds and wildlife and we are well served by local buses to Looe, Polperro, Liskeard and beyond. Polraen features in 'Trails from the Tracks' - a published programme of walks accessible from stations along the Looe Valley Line and is a welcome watering hole on the Looe Valley Real Ale Trail. Click here Looe Valley Walks for details of walking in the Looe Valley and the annual Walking Festival held in September.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Polraen is a non smoking establishment. We aim to be increasingly environmentally friendly. We adopt recycling and apply housekeeping routines and make purchasing decisions which reflect care and consideration for our environment. We have this year been awarded the 'Green Acorn Award' by the South East Cornwall Tourism Association, recognising the improvements we have made to reduce the impact of our business, and you, our visitors, on the environment.

We are positively child friendly but in spite of owning a lovely black labrador, sorry - we do not accept guest pets.

However, we positively welcome families with children and provide a range of facilities including a children's menu, high chair & child cutlery, travel cots, bed guards, digital baby listening monitor, microwave in room, toys, video library, food storage/bottles washed/warmed, freeze ice packs etc.
Free WiFi Access is available from all bedrooms and public areas.

Laundry
- washing can be undertaken on request (service charge applies) while iron and ironing boards are available for your use free of charge.
Walkers - we are in a great location for walking - on the coast, in the valley and near the moors. We are happy to loan local guide books and Ordnance Survey Maps for independent walking or arrange escorted walks with a local guide.

Tariff-  From £32.00 per person per night. Open All Year Round (except Christmas).
Directions-  17 miles from Plymouth at the junction of the A387 to Looe and the B3254 to Duloe & Liskeard. Or arrive by train - mainline to Liskeard - and branch line to Looe stopping at Sandplace - 4 minutes walk from the hotel. For detailed instructions and map, click here.

Things to Do and See in & around Looe-  Your hosts, Gill and Martin Bridges, had been coming to Looe for their own holidays over the past 25 years before deciding to give up their previous careers in financial services and marketing, moving from London 8 years ago. We had spent many happy afternoons in the garden at Polraen after lazy days on the beach. Click here for a few of our personal recommendations on places to visit and things to do during your holiday.
